Occupational Summary

As a Web Designer for hesketh.com, you will be responsible for the look-and-feel of Web sites and application designs and implementation for our progressive client base working within a user-centered design team approach. This position will develop user-centered layout and graphical components, balancing usability and cultural factors with strategic goals and visual brand.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with a diverse, user-centered design team made up of User Experience Consultants, Designers, and Application Developers for full life cycle web design and development.
  2. Establish creative direction and design graphical user interfaces for Web sites and applications.
  3. Implement designs using standards-compliant markup (XHTML and CSS) and tableless and progressive enhancement markup strategies.
  4. Implement enhancements and modifications to client sites.
  5. Troubleshoot and repair bugs and design issues.
  6. Assess new methodologies, standards, trends, and formulate strategies and plans for incorporating those into your work.

Qualifications

Education

BA or BS degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience

  • Minimum four or more years of experience in Web design and development.
  • Strong Web design portfolio required, including experience in Web site composition and typography.
  • Experience with large, complex, and dynamic Web sites.
  • Agency experience preferred.

Skills

Must-haves

  • Visual creativity and expertise in Web visual design.
  • Familiarity with the core principles of branding, information design, and theories of navigation and the ability to translate theory into exceptional reality.
  • Experience in coding browser-independent, standards-compliant XHTML and CSS.
  • Knowledge of browser display differences and experience in coding around them.
  • Ability to analyze, define, and complete tasks with minimal direction/supervision.
  • Thoroughness and an eye for detail.
  • Eagerness to learn, share, and apply new skills and trends.
  • Integrity, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sense of humor.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience providing accurate and realistic project estimates and exercising the discipline required to meet them.
  • Illustration and/or photography skills.
  • Experience developing user experience architectures (sitemaps, workflows) and interface wireframes.
  • Familiarity with usability testing, ethonographic research, personas, and other user-centered design methodologies.
