Occupational Summary

As a Social Media Marketer for hesketh.com, you will be responsible for enhancing the current mix of marketing and user-experience consulting services we offer our progressive client base. Because our company is committed to delivering measurable results to its clients, you will be responsible for identifying the best social media approaches to use for a particular situation, defining programs that complement other traditional marketing strategies, and helping us measure the success of the tactics our team recommends. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Define and articulate strategies for using social media and other online marketing techniques to help clients extend their reach and more effectively achieve organizational goals.
  2. Assess changing and emerging social media methodologies, standards, trends, and formulate strategies and plans for incorporating those into your work.
  3. Collaborate and share your knowledge with a diverse, user-centered design team for full life cycle Web design and development. Work with other team members to communicate how social media recommendations mesh with broader Web and traditional marketing strategies.
  4. Clearly explain the advantages, particularly as they relate to organizational objectives, of using specific social media marketing tactics to clients with limited knowledge of those tactics.
  5. Train clients on the actual use of social media techniques, including best practices and the avoidance of ethical issues. (hesketh.com is committed to empowering its clients to become as self-sufficient as they desire.)
  6. Formulate recommendations in collaboration with our technology team for tools to use for various marketing approaches and measurement (blogs, podcasts, wikis, RSS, analytics, etc). Your emphasis is on business requirements, capabilities, ease-of-use; the tech team offers expertise in system environment, compatibility, stability, and maintainability.  

Qualifications

Education

BA or BS degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years of experience with professional Web planning and development of large, complex, and dynamic Web initiatives
  • Minimum of two years of online marketing experience, at least one in traditional online marketing techniques (SEO, SEM, campaign management) and one year of strategic planning responsibilities
  • A minimum of two years of substantial experience with using three or more social media tools; at least one of those years should constitute use of the tools for the benefit of a sizeable organization, rather than personal branding
  • Agency experience preferred.

Skills

Must-haves

  • An innate curiosity and enthusiasm about SMM, coupled with the ability to think and plan strategically and identify the approaches most suited to specific audiences and situations
  • Ability to identify and conform to evolving best practices for SMM, SEO, and SEM, including but not limited to strong ethical guidelines
  • Experience in email campaigns and e-newsletters
  • A solid understanding of general marketing principles, along with an understanding of how social media meshes with even the most traditional marketing approaches
  • Know-how in establishing metrics for monitoring the success of online campaigns and initiatives
  • Specialized writing and communication skills as they apply to specific SMM, or the ability to instruct, critique, and hone the style of other writers
  • Willingness to explain how you might develop the one or two skills in this "must have" list that you currently lack
  • Eagerness to learn, patience to share, and ability to apply new skills and trends
  • Ability to work under own initiative coupled with a desire to work with a team
  • Sense of humor

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience providing accurate and realistic project estimates and exercising the discipline required to meet them.
  • Strong relationships with bloggers that have influence in the primary spheres that hesketh.com serves
  • Good understanding of Web design, applications, information architecture
  • Familiarity with video production, podcasting
  • Foosball skills
